A lot of press announcements came out this week regarding Mariah Carey's next movie deal. Producer Anthony Esposito told the willing and waiting wire services that Mariah would star in a new movie called Sweet Science, and play a boxing coach.
But hold it, say Carey insiders.
Apparently Esposito, who was the man behind Carey's Wisegirls, decided to make his announcement independent of having a deal, a signed contract, or even a distributor for Wisegirls . That's right. He's so busy getting ready to make a new movie that Esposito apparently still hasn't found someone to take on the one he's got in the can.
I will say that Esposito did tell me at Sundance he fully expected to make another movie with Mariah. He's been planning Sweet Science for some time.
But Carey has not agreed to anything. In fact, I doubt she will until she and her management sees how Esposito fares with placing Wisegirls.
Wisegirls is a good film, by the way, and Mariah-surprisingly ? acquits herself in the movie as a tough talking waitress with a heart of gold. If Esposito can get it out there and make some money, he might have an argument to get Mariah back before his cameras. But a lot remains to be seen.
Meantime, Carey ? who picked up $49 million as she waltzed away from Virgin Records ? would be wise to take a break and strategize her next moves.

A representative of Lions Gate has spoken with Mariah Carey UK and
revealed the following: "We do own the rights to this film in the US, but
have not decided on a theatrical or home video release date. The
international dates are still up in the air as well. I should have more info in
about a month for two for this film." It has been confirmed that "Wise
Girls" will be shown in Belgium also and this is all the information
that is known right now.

guest and supermodel Molly Sims take part in an strip tease contest with
phoners and audience members. The questions were ridiculously tough on
the former law student and after Molly missed the question that had her
remove her shirt, Carson commented, "This is great. The last time a
shirt came off was Mariah, and this was a much better moment."

Mariah Still Sparkels
She that "Glitter"s turns to ... more movies.
Mariah Carey ? whose recent Sundance Film Festival selection,
"Wisegirls," appears to be a step toward saving the singer's acting career after
the disastrous "Glitter" ? has signed on for another indie drama.
In "Sweet Science," Carey will play a determined boxing manager who
drafts an unknown female boxer to make a name for them both, according to
the film's co-producer, Anthony Esposito.
After working with the pop star as the co-producer of "Wisegirls,"
Esposito said he believes in Mariah and likened her to Cher, who was at
first ridiculed for her attempt at the big screen but went on to win an
Oscar.
Esposito is still looking for a director for "Sweet Science," which is
scheduled to begin shooting this summer. He is also still casting the
role of the boxer, which he toyed with offering to Carey, but she
would've needed serious training, he said.
Gary Goldman ("Total Recall"), Stan Seidel ("One Night at McCool's")
and Rick Angres wrote the "Sweet Science" screenplay.
Critics who saw "Wisegirls" at Sundance last month had positive words
for Carey's performance as a waitress in a restaurant run by the mob.
The film, which also stars Mira Sorvino, is due later this year.
"Glitter" was delayed after Carey suffered extreme exhaustion and
checked herself into a clinic (see "Mariah Carey Had 'Breakdown,' Her
Publicist Says"). It was panned by critics, hardly registering at the box
office (see "Mariah's 'Glitter' Falls Short Of Box Office Top 10"), but
that did not slow Carey. She has since appeared on "Ally McBeal" (see
"Mariah Carey Lights 'Matches' For 'Ally McBeal' Role") and has sung at
high-profile events like "America: A Tribute to Heroes" and the Super
Bowl.

'Rock's Finest'.
They just had a special on and talked about sexy parts of music stars.
When they got to legs, Mariah was the first one they discussed. That
model/veejay Roshumba said Mariah's legs in "Honey" are the best/sexiest
legs she has ever seen. Carmen Electra says Mariah shows them a lot and
should. She said Mariah has a great skin tone as well.

Star magazine reports Mariah Carey is admitting to being a tough girl
in her school days. Carey said, "I beat every boy in arm wrestling in my
entire grade."
(pop dirt) Loose Weight Singing To Mariah fact or fiction: can singing mariah help you loose weight?
We all heard Glitter, Mariah's latest album, has been suffering from
mediocre sales ever since it release back in September. But there just
might be a new reason to run out and buy it. Her official site Web site,
www.mariahcarey.com, is claiming that singing her ballads can actually
be good for you health! Yeah, we know this sounds ridiculous, but try
to follow this: According to the site, singing Mariah's tunes gives your
lungs a workout, which can then increase lung enderance, and in turn
increase the amount of time you can work out by up to 20%. Whew! Got all
that?
Here's how: "Play Mariah's killer tracks 'Never Too Far' 'When I SAw
You', 'Forever' 'Mariah's Theme', 'Without You', 'After Tonight' and
'Hero' at volume you would watch TV and sing over it," the Web Site
instructs. "You don't need to sound like Mariah for this workout; just sing
with passion."
We say it's a fun theory, but keep in mind it has not been proven or
receive approval from a physician. Not that belting out Mariah's songs
can hurt-after all, maybe that's what keeps Mariah herself looking so
sexy!
